Location
I took this photo in my home studio.Time
No set time of day as I worked on this shot over a number of days.Lighting
I used two soft boxes which I goboed off to create two thin strip lights. I then placed a small white reflector just under the camera to fill the front of the bottles. I painted the background by spraying paint and then built 5 boxes (only used three) and then painted them also in the same fashion, splattering paint on them. I had the boxes hanging on fishing line and the bottles suspended on wires. I then cleaned it all up in photoshop.Equipment
Canon 60D...nothing high end and a tripod.Inspiration
I had always wanted to do some kind of product shot with a splashed paint effect. The nail polishes were an after thought as I tried other items but they didn't suit.Editing
Simple clean up of wires and fishing lines. Colour saturation and clean up of the highlights on the nail polish bottles. One bottle I photographed separately with same lighting and added it in later. This was because the angle I wanted it to suspend made the highlight look a bit unbalanced. I also created shadows to ensure that the bottles looked like they were suspended. The reflector created flat shadows so I needed to make them more prominent. That's about it. Most of it was shot in camera. In my camera bag
Two bodies, canon 60D and 6D. Few lenses. I'm not a real gismo gadget person as I was trained years ago using very simple equipment. Even the darkrooms I used were quite run down and I learnt very quickly how to use substandard equipment in such a way to get great results. We had to work with what we had even if it required gaffer tape and other inventive repairs :)Feedback
Loads of patience, planning and not giving up when things don't work as well as you had hoped.
