This is a calf moose that was around our cottage for awhile after it was born. This shot is 11 days after I first saw it just minutes after it was born. The mother tried to swim it across the lake but it was too much for the calf. They headed to a bay and after a great struggle it crawled up on some logs near the shoreline. It lay down there and rested for quite some time - the logs that it is laying on are actually floating in the bay.
P.S. the white specks on the photo are actually bugs swirling around the calf. You can see why they go crazy at the height of blackfly season
