Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken inside my Fiancee and I's house in downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado. The subject being our daughter's cat "Celery".

Time

Shot mid-afternoon in our living room, usually we have the overhead lights on as well as a little sunshine coming through one of four standard size windows.

Lighting

As I said above, pretty basic, the majority of the lighting here is coming from a few overhead fan lights on my (average height) living room ceiling.

Equipment

Shot this using my Galaxy S6 Edge. I'm often busy running errands and such for work so having a superb mobile photography device has always been very important to me. Although I enjoyed the Galaxy S6 Edge quite a bit as a phone, and the camera is definitely nothing to scoff at, I have now upgraded to an LG G4 which in terms of mobile photography has been my absolute favorite piece of equipment.

Inspiration

If I remember correctly, I actually took this photo with the idea of entering it in a Viewbug contest (Animal Portraits or something of the like). I don't recall how I finished but I'm guessing I didn't take first ;).

Editing

Not a whole ton of editing/post-processing with this shot but I did take it through my standard basic touch up/workflow process using Adobe Lightroom (for PC). As I said, not a whole lot of adjustment here, just a bit of cleaning up and a slight crop.

In my camera bag

Depends on what my day looks like, although I do have more than one DSLR in my possession I find myself shooting primarily with my LG G4 these days. I know that may sound a bit blasphemous to some but I can say with some confidence that it really is a great camera. Other than the phone itself, I often have my Ipad Pro with me in case I feel the need to do some "on scene" post-processing using some non-Android applications.

Feedback

Shoot shoot shoot! When practicing animal photography it's often an issue convincing the subject (s) to stay still for more than a second or two (if that), therefore I find that at some point just giving up and letting them do their thing is the best method. After that just take a lot of pictures. This shot was one of around 40-50 taken during the same session and although there we're a couple decent captures this was the obvious standout. Thanks so much for taking the time to look at my work!
