While on our way hiking to the Matanuska glacier, which lies close to the highway, we passed through numerous ponds which were perfectly still and reflected the beautiful landscape around. Fall colors were still not at their peak, but still we were able to catch some yellows and reds on that day.
A few meters after this pond, there starts a thick sheet of ice that covers the ground. It's recommended to walk with spikes, though I had seen many walking without them. I was told there have been plenty of accidents due to negligence. I believe safety is a very important factor that must never be overlooked, especially while traveling.
The glacier itself can be seen here on the left side. You can just about see the whie part of it. It was a very thrilling and unique experience walking on one. Throughout the trip, I saw many glaciers, but nothing came close to walking on one and feeling it.
Hope you like the image. Have a nice rest of the week and a happy weekend.
Cheers!!
