The American Bittern is the smallest member of the Heron family, and is a rare find in Arizona. The bird was found at the Whitewater Draw in Cochise County, Arizona and was wintering at this site managed by Arizona Fish and Game. Although Whitewater is famous for the 30,000 Sandhill Cranes that winter there every year, it is also home to over 100 other "snowbirds". The American Bittern can also be found in the warm months in the Great Lakes region of the U.S.
