Yes and no, it is not a common jellyfish it is a siphonophore, and belongs to the phylum cndaria family which includes corals and sea anemones. It is also know as the portuguese man of war

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Yamba,New South wales,Australia. I am a self taught photographer who loves to take photos at various different angles of various subjects. I feel i can find the beauty in just about anything.

Time

It was late in the afternoon after a two hour drive from Queensland to reach our romantic getaway destination. We took a walk along the beach before dinner. It was windy a north eastern breeze often brings Blue Bottles up onto the beach. When i saw this one i joked to my partner that it was fantastic place to be washed up upon as it's last view would be the best view it has had in it's life.

Lighting

I wanted this picture to reflect the view from the Blue Bottles perspective, the sun was behind me so the lighting was perfect. It was just a matter of getting the angle right.

Equipment

This was taken with an Apple Iphone 6 and just a few months later i received my Nikon Digital SLR as a present.

Inspiration

I am easily inspired by random objects, animals, natural phenomena and man made patterns.

Editing

I rarely like to edit my photos and aim to try and capture what i am seeing with my naked eye. When i do edit them often it is to adjust the contrast and saturation of the image, and some selective cropping.

In my camera bag

I always have a phone with me as a back up when i have used all of the battery life in my Nikon D3300 with an 18-55 VR II Kit.

Feedback

when the wind blows North east onto a beach in you area, you can be guaranteed that the Blue Bottles will be blown in along the shoreline. Go for a walk along the wet sand and make sure you're watching where you walk as these things can still sting you out of the water.
