Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the dead of winter at Fort Gratiot County Park, Michigan.

Time

We got up around 5:30 am to make the trip to catch the sunrise. When we arrived, new gates had been installed at the park entrance and wouldn't open until 8. We walked around the gate and watched the sunrise. Shortly after, we walked back to the car and drove back in. The sun was a little higher and looked like it wanted to play on the beach.

Lighting

I didn't know enough about the camera and settings to do anything with this.

Equipment

Being a novice photographer at the time (2012), I had my Nikon D90 and the stock lens that came with it. I had it on automatic.

Inspiration

We had recently lost our son and he loved sunrises and sunsets. He would make special trips just to catch the best views and we were wanted to feel him.

Editing

No, I didn't have any photoshop/lightroom experience.

In my camera bag

I've been accumulating a couple of lenses and tripods. My go to for night sky photography is the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 and I just got a Sigma 150-600 f/5-6.3.

Feedback

Get up early and find a nice east facing beach. Sorry. Not much here.
