I saw this little guy on the steps when I walked out one Fall morning. A Google search indicates it's a Hickory Tussock Moth caterpillar which prefers hickory trees, but can also be found on oak, maple, ash and others. Fortunately I just photographed him, since touching him gives most people an “itchy rash”. Others experience swelling and nausea because the “fuzz” is barbed and connected to poison glands. I haven't seen him since. Perhaps he headed into the void to weave his cocoon and spend the winter developing into an adult Hickory Tussock Moth.
