Behind The Lens

Location

Taken at our local park about 15 minutes walking time.

Time

I set off walking at about 5.30 am as the sunrise would be at 6.30am. As I don't drive I wanted to be there in good time and it was really foggy, which I think is excellent for Black & White photos.

Lighting

The park lights were on and I wanted to hide them behind the trees and what looks like the sun appearing in the photo is the glare from the park light.

Equipment

I used a Pentax k30 camera, Tamron 17-50mm lens. A tripod was used as I wanted the shot to be pretty sharp and this helped me to keep a low ISO (100). and it allowed me to use the self-timer on the camera.

Inspiration

Ive been in the park once before when foggy but without my camera and listening to the weather forecast the night before I decided to give it a try. I love to see how the light changes and trees appear and then disappear in a short space of time. Shortly after the fog dispersed and the sun rose and my magical time was over, but I still have my photos to remember it.

Editing

As I shoot in raw it was processed in Lightroom and cropped , then converted to Black & White.

In my camera bag

Pentax k30,Tamron 17-50mm lens, Pentax 55-300 lens. I carry a circular polarizing filter, numerous cleaning aids and a small tripod.

Feedback

Listen out for the weather forecasts and if fog or mist is mentioned give it a go and enjoy it. One item that I would definitely use is a Tripod. It doesn't have to be the biggest or the best but I find is essential for this type of photography. Others would maybe disagree but at the end of the day its the image captured that matters and also the enjoyment in doing so.
