Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Benton, LA on a family shoot. This tractor has been sitting in their pasture for many years. I absolutely loved it and had to have a photo of it alone!

Time

This photo was shot on a very hot summer day in July around 5:30 pm. This was the first shot I took.

Lighting

I shot this in all natural light. I'm a very basic girl, I carry my camera, favorite lens and sometimes a reflector. I rarely use a flash. It helped that the tractor was in a shade also. Had it been in bright sunlight, I wouldn't have been able to get the same effect.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D7000 with my 50mm 1.4g lens. That is my absolute favorite lens and it rarely comes off my camera.

Inspiration

I love old, vintage things and when I saw this tractor I knew I had to take a photo of it. The family's photos were actually based around it, but I had to get one of it alone. I just love the fact it's been sitting in this field for so many years. I can only imagine the history it has.

Editing

I did a lot of post-processing in photoshop to get it where I wanted. I brought in lots of contrast, made sure the rust really stood out, and darkened my greens.

In my camera bag

I always have my Nikon D7000 camera, my 50mm 1.4g lens, those are pretty much what I always use. I also have in my bag my 85mm 1.8g lens, the 35mm 1.8 lens, extra batteries, and a flash. All of my gear is carried in my House of Flynn camera bag that I love very much.

Feedback

Follow your heart first of all. If you think it's something you will really love, shoot it. Time of day and lighting are very important. You won't get the same image in bright sunlight as you will in a shade or the wonderful golden hour. When you shoot your image, make sure you have a plan in mind as to how you will edit the photo as well.
