I don't own a dedicated macro lens. However, it does not become an obstacle when shooting macro images. Best (and cheapest) alternative for this is Macro Filters..and yes, it gives good results too.

Shooting macro is not always getting into details...all those complex eyes etc. Sometime if you shoot complete object with correct framing and composition, it will be perfect :)
