Location
This photo was taken in the forest at Riple Skicentre in Bergen, Norway. We go hiking here a lot with our dog and I love all the shades of green in the moss of this old forest. I find it really peaceful and I love to walk on the trails made and used by the local deer. Sometimes we see them as they dash out of sight. I like the way this picture tells the story of these secret paths and I think you get a sense of the peace I find when I walk them.Time
The photo was taken in the middle of the summer, I think last year (2015), and in the middle of the day. We usually hike here on weekends and spend an hour or two in the forest. Our dog really likes to walk on the soft moss and we even hide a toy under it so she has to search for it. I remember that it was a hot day and walking into the shades of the forest was a nice relief.Lighting
On overcast days the shades in the forest can sometimes be too dark for photography without a tripod, but on this day the sun was really bright and just made the shades of green pop. You can make out spots where the sun breaks through the trees and makes a pattern on the trees and forest floor. I think this underlines the feeling of peace and the line of the path invites to a walk into a secret world.Equipment
My camera is a Nikon D3000 and the lens I used is a Nikon DX 18-55mm f 3.5. I did not use any other equipment.Inspiration
I have been walking in this forest on weekends for years and wanted to take a picture that told the story of the peacefulness I feel when walking here. other than the deer that made the path no one seems to use it, or even know of it, which ads to the apeal for me. I wanted to show the loneliness of the old trees and the bright green moss as it is in the middle of summer. I want to take a similar photo in the dead of winter, when the snow against the dark trees will make it an almost black and white version of this photo.Editing
I typically like to bring the light up a bit and then make the photo pop by darkening the shadows a bit. I don't like tampering too much with the photos, unless I want to make something more "artsy".In my camera bag
Apart from my camera and standard 18-55mm lense, I usually only take my Sigma DG macro hsm 105mm f 2,8 lense. I really enjoy macrophotography.Feedback
Photograph things you know and love and I think this will show in the photos. I have been in love with this forest for years and find something new in it every time I walk there. Look at the thing you want to photograph in different lights, at different times of the day/year and in different types of weather. Find the combination that you feel tells the story you want to tell.
