Location
This photograph was taken at the old bells of line steam train station at Bell in the blue mountains before the 2019/2020 bushfires.Time
My team and I had been driving around exploring abandoned locations and came to the station at mid morning.Lighting
The day alternated from direct sunlight to overcast, which highlighted the decay of the steel in reliefEquipment
Cannon D 400.Inspiration
I want to capture the beauty and emotion in human decay. If humans were not around, what would happen to our machines and dwellings we take for granted. The rust and the colours derived from the hull being exposed to extreme weather conditions are beautiful and raw.Editing
I did some minor processing to give the rust particles more pop as sometimes a photograph can seem flat and not do the image the justice of the human eyeIn my camera bag
First aid, mobile and ID, tripod, lense and filters, lense hood, masks/gloves and a change of clothing.Feedback
Be aware of your environment. This was a bush environment so awareness of snakes, spiders and animals is a must. Also be aware of the risks of dealing with abandoned machinery/locations. Safety first. It is always advisable to take a phone and a partner with you for safety and well as telling someone where you are going and what time to expect you back.
