Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my garden in South Africa. I'm a self taught novice, never really having held a camera until about 2 weeks before this shot.

Time

I'd been outside around 3:30pm having tea and fiddling with my new camera. My cat decided it was time to climb up the parrot's stand and line herself up in her best modelling pose.

Lighting

This picture was taken in the African summer. The plants are all blossoming and trees are vibrantly green. I wanted to try and capture the warm of the sun light and the vibrant colours of summer.

Equipment

I took this picture on my EOS 600D.

Inspiration

I've always loved animals. I bought my camera in order to take some decent snaps while on holiday in the African bush. I wasn't heading to the bush anytime soon, so the cuter, smaller cat was the next best photo subject.

Editing

This photo has no post-processing.

In my camera bag

I always carry with me a spare memory card and battery so that I'm ready for any occasion!

Feedback

When you are photographing a living subject, I find that the more relaxed you are the better you can capture your subject in a natural light. Not forcing the scene but rather waiting for the right scene to come along is always key.
