Behind The Lens

Location

this shot was taken in my makeup studio in Falmouth, Cornwall. My main job is makeup, but I like taking photo's as well. I am self taught with photography so learning as I go.

Time

It was an all day shoot. We started in my studio where this photo was taken, but then we went outside afterwards to get a different look.

Lighting

I have white walls so I used just one light with a box diffuser.

Equipment

I had a canon 600D with a cheap studio light from eBay on a tripod and a soft box. I used a 18-55mm lens, so basic, but my studio is small so works in that environment.

Inspiration

This shoot was inspired by Cheryl Cole. My model did look a bit like her as well, so I did the makeup similar and tried a few different outfits.

Editing

On this shoot I used portrait pro and motor, so pretty basic, as I am still learning, which is why I try to get as good of a photo as I can so I don't need to edit as much.

In my camera bag

I am still building up my kit. I have just bought a second hand Canon HD mark ii, which I am getting to grips with. I have my 50mm lens 1.4, which I use a lot and a flashgun.

Feedback

As a makeup artist and photographer i like lots of light to flatter the model and bring out the makeup, so a white background really works. If you have a small space you don't need to spend lots of money of lights as its close up work.
