Taken on a Canon 5DMKIII mounted on a tripod. The weather systems that the hills generate on the left hand side add atmosphere whilst the streaks of light on the right and in the sky add additional interest to the landscape. The road to the right that snakes to the centre of the image help to take the eye to the middle of the frame and zoom in on the landscape. Love this place it is so England at its best.

Location
The photo was taken at a small village known as Allington Barnes in the Vale of Pewsey, Wiltshire, England. This is a long Vale that stretches from Pewsey to Calne and a little beyond. It sits the other side of Salisbury Plain and provides some very dramatic views when the weather changes.Time
Taken at 5:45am as the sun is about to rise and the mist can be seen rolling down the hills on the left-hand side of the shot. Early morning vapour trails reflect the rising sun and add motion and interest to the early morning sky. The building next to the winding road in the centre of the shot helps to take your eye to the centre of the image as you follow the road. It feels as though you are on a journey through the image into the land beyond.Lighting
The best light for this shot is to expose for the foreground, lock the exposure and then use a graded ND filter to avoid over exposure for the sky.Equipment
The Camera, this was a Canon 5DMkIII using the standard 24-105mm L lense. The camera was mounted on a tripod using an off-camera electronic shutter release.Inspiration
At this time in the morning when you pass through the colours of the landscape are incredible. As a Vale, the hills create their own weather systems and there is always a different picture to be taken. On this occasions, it just looked peaceful and mystical and as such out came the camera and tripod to capture the momentEditing
Some simple post processing to bring out the shadows in the foreground and reduce a few highlights. A little vignette around the image also helps to soften the edges of the image and bring your eyes into the centre of the shot.In my camera bag
Canon 5DMkIII, Standard Canon L Lense 24-105MM, Tamron 28-300mm F3.5 PZD Lense, Shutter Release, Camera battery hand grip to take 2 x batteries, Filter systems for ND and graded ND filters, 150MM Bronica Lense using a Bronica to Canon adaptor. Strapped Tripod to the bag.Feedback
Use a tripod and shutter release such as the RST-7002 - a good remote switch that does not cost the earth. Use Lightroom to finish the work and it is sometimes better to avoid HDR so as not to over do the image.
