There is a lot of history behind the Superstition Mountains. For instance, The Lost Dutchman Mine, said to be hidden somewhere withing the mountain range, but hidden by the native Americans that used to live there. Many people have gone hiking to never be found. The vast mountain range contains endless trails that have existed for centuries. It very easy to get lost, with triple digit temps possible during the day, and freezing temps possible at night, is not a very nice place to get lost.
