Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Naples, I have always loved to travel to different cities, specially in Florida, I always try to photograph the sunset in a way that defines my style, or in a sense that means something to me, or that would intrigue the viewer.

Time

This was probably around 6:00pm, I remember sitting on the beach, and just letting that sense of peace, and serenity hit me, i was taking multiple photos from different angles, I really wanted to capture a shot that I would be able to look at and relax, bring back memories that would put a smile on my face, is what I wanted to portrait to my viewers, I was hoping for them to have a Photograph that will bring them serenity, and calmness...

Lighting

I wanted the photograph to be bright so I had my aperture a bit more open which was around F11 instead of the normal F5... anyway I wanted to also give in a sense of that there is really no focal point, so that everything in the photo is important and lit up, that is why you see the palm tree, and the clouds, the sun, they all well exposed and well focused.

Equipment

this was with my Nikon D3100, I love Nikons, I am a Nikon geek, I love the way they photograph, and the sharpness of the end result. I didn't use anything else just my Nikon =) and a wide lens ( 20mm)

Inspiration

I was trying to capture something that made the sunsets special for myself, but also for the viewer, I truly believe that I not only gave my Photograph a sense of calmness but also a sense of mystery, because in reality the beauty of a sunset is that the mystery behind it, the unknown... I wanted to ensure that whenever I look at that photo I can remember the beauty of a city, or even just the beauty of nature.

Editing

When I shoot for myself I usually don't do any Post-Processing, because I am a truly believer that you can photograph an amazing photo with out having to do post work on it, I love to learn this way, is a great way to learn about new exposures, techniques, or what works and what doesn't. =)

In my camera bag

I usually have my Nikon D3300 with a 55-200mm lens, my two year old could take an awesome photo with this camera ( i believe she has lol), I usually have also a couple different memory cards, a battery charger, an extra battery. and also I have a Nikon Coolpix Point and shoot in case I ran out of Batteries on my actual camera. I also carry around a notebook, where I write down locations, I would like to come back and photograph, Locations where I would suggest for photoshoots, times where I feel lighting is at is best, and just to scribble down ideas I have, techniques I want to try. And I guess because I carry my camera with me everywhere I go, I also have the typical stuff a girl carries in its purse. ;)

Feedback

if you're trying to capture a sunset, that in a way speaks to you, and inspires you. just pick a spot, Like I didn't just go to Naples and photographed like a maniac, I thought about it, a bit, I went on different days, at different times, and just ensured I had a time I thought to my best decision that lighting was going to make my photograph the most impacting, and started shooting away. you don't want to have what I call a "lucky shot" you know just a shot that looks great but it was because you were in the right time at the right moment. so that's why I like to plan ahead, and mess with the settings on my camera, until i get the perfect lighting, the perfect ISO, everything that would make me want to look at that photograph and smile.
