This sunrise photo was taken on Ft. Lauderdale beach in Florida.Time
Each time I visit the beach, I wait for that perfect sunrise to capture with my camera. I woke up and took a long walk before the sun came up. Then, I started to see it peeking through the clouds. The birds were so peaceful, crossing the sun's path in all of my shots.Lighting
The light from the sun in this photo is captivating. To me, it symbolizes hope, love, and positivity.Equipment
This photo was taken with my Canon PowerShot G12.Inspiration
My inspiration is the peaceful feeling of a beach sunrise. The sounds of the waves, the birds, and the wind is so relaxing.Editing
I cropped the photo to eliminate some distracting waves, as I wanted the focus to be the birds and the light. I also straightened the photo to balance it. I increased the contrast just a bit. That was it! The natural beauty is enough for me.In my camera bag
In my camera bag, I usually carry a miniature tripod for those unexpected times, a lens cleaning cloth and drops, and bandaids for those risky hiking trips and climbing adventures to get the shots I really want. I also keep a ton of memory cards... I should probably organize those! I have way too many! There are also some very cool seashells in there... aaand a compass. Hmm, this question made me realize how random I truly am!Feedback
So, how can you capture a photo like this? First, I think it's important to recognize what kinds of places are the most peaceful to you. What is your favorite scene? What brings you peace with yourself and the nature around you? Then, go there! Wait for the right time. In my opinion, the most successful time for beach photography is sunrise or sunset. However, it depends what direction the beach is facing. For example, in Ft. Lauderdale and Deerfield Beach, I have some of my best sunrise shots, but in Siesta Key, those sunsets are just phenomenal. Next, take as many shots as you can! Don't EVER delete a photo, unless you are 100% sure you won't like it. Save it until it makes it to the big screen, and then you can decide. Who knows? You may find a surprising shot. Remember to take a shot from every single angle that you can possibly bend and turn. Yes, you may take some very unusual photos along the way. But, it is ALWAYS worth it. And if by chance, you see a bird coming, take a picture, and another and another! I never look. I just keep snapping until the birds are gone and then I look back and think... wow that turned out to be a beautiful picture. After all, you are trying to capture a once in a lifetime moment. Have hope that you will take the photo you are imagining. You may even end up with something better than what you imagine! And finally, when you edit your photos, keep it natural. I mean, it is nature we're talking about. I usually resize my photos to be 300x their print size. For example, if I want to print an 8 x 10 of a photo, I'll save a resized copy of it as 2400 x 3000 pixels in order improve the quality. I almost always like to boost the contrast and saturation a tiny bit, depending on how satisfied I am. I like to remind myself that I want to show the world the beautiful moment I had the pleasure of witnessing, so I will do what is necessary to make that happen. Too much editing can take that feeling away from a photo, so be cautious! Keep snapping those fantastic shots! I hope one day you have a bag full of used memory cards with unforgettable memories to go along with them. Thank you SO much for inquiring about my photo!
