Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Washington DC. A friend and I had just visited the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial and were walking back to the car. I believe it was early afternoon when I spotted the Jefferson Memorial through the trees.

Time

It was 2:25 PM on Nov 5th 2005

Lighting

The light was perfect afternoon light. I could not have asked for better. I remember thinking, if only there were clouds. But the more I thought about it the more I realized that clouds would have taken the focus away from the memorial.

Equipment

Believe it or not this was taken with a Kodak DX4530 Zoom Digital Camera The settings were F 6.7, at 1/640 of a sec @ 16mm.

Inspiration

When I was passing by this spot the memorial was gleaming through the trees and the contrast caught my attention. The reflection was such an added bonus.

Editing

I did not do any post processing on this, that I can remember. I have considered running it through Photoshop, but decided against it. I just like it the way it is.

In my camera bag

Right now I have Nikon D7000, and a Sony A 6000 both with various lenses. I also use my Samsung Galaxy Note 20 with a Shift Cam Pro Grip for test shots.

Feedback

Know you lighting and the direction it comes from. I personally don't believe any light is better, or less expensive than natural, when used correctly.
