Location
This photo was taken at China Beach in San Francisco, CaliforniaTime
I took this shot at about 10am after the fog had lifted.Lighting
I had to wait for the morning fog to lift before taking this photo. The lighting wasn't as good as I hoped, but with the clear blue sky, I knew it would lend itself well to a black-and-white photoEquipment
This was taken with a Nikon D7000 and 18mm lens on a tripod. Since I was shooting long exposures of up to 2 minutes, I was fighting the surf causing my tripod to sink and become un-level.Inspiration
I had been wanting to capture a unique image of the Golden Gate Bridge for a few years. What really motivated me to grab this shot was the purchase of a 10 stop neutral density filter so I could smooth out the wave action and give it an ethereal look.Editing
The only post processing I did on this photo was in Adobe Lightroom for straightening, black-and-white conversion, and blue toningIn my camera bag
I carry my camera, a Nikon D 7000, a Mefoto Road Trip Tripod, Nikkor 18-140 and Nikkor 50. I also use the Lee ND filters and filter holder.Feedback
I would say first thing is to take your time and pay attention to your frame composition and light. I also use an app on my iPhone that tells me how long to leave my shutter open when using my ND filter. Other than that always be aware of the waves and do your best to check your exposure and keep your tripod level.
