I went our for a walk along some sand dunes after a period of extremely heavy rainfall. At one point I discovered a bush that was full of insects that were clinging on for dear life as they must have been caught in the downpour and were trying to dry out. I did not have my macro lens on me, so I made a mental note to return the next day to see whether there was anything still in the bush.
24 hours later this bee was still clinging to the bush, in fact I thought it was dead as it was in exactly the same place as the previous day. It still looked soaked to the skin and thoroughly miserable.
It was then that I noticed that it was infested with lots of mites and their eggs (not seen in this photo) and was obviously suffering a very slow, miserable, tormented death.
Nature can be cruel indeed.
