Location
This photo was taken in Dubrovnik, Croatia. I was touring the Dubrovnik City Walls. This is from the inside of the wall looking out into the city. I used the frame of the window to act as a natural frame for the city view.Time
It was a beautiful sunny morning in May 2014 around 10am.Lighting
As I'm new to photography, I'm not sure if I could speak to the technical aspects of the lighting. But from my eye, I felt that the sky was bright enough and in ideal spots. As well, where the sun was, it created some great shadows to highlight the natural window frame that I wanted to use to capture the view of the city. This dark and light juxtaposition seemed to highlight the rooftops and the city making the eye focus on the city itself.Equipment
No special equipment except my iPhone!Inspiration
There were a number of reasons why I wanted to take this photo: * a unique view of the city and to use the photo as a souvenir when I got home * see how lighting can affect a picture * didn't want to just have a panorama of the city * and I just loved how the view looked and I wanted to have a memory of it.Editing
No post-processing was used.In my camera bag
My iPhone is always with me as you never know what you're going to see. But in the camera bag, it's my Nikon D900 and that's it! Simple.Feedback
Be open and mindful to spaces around you. Sometimes odd or unique openings provide the neatest natural frames. Try different angles to capture different lighting and views. And don't be afraid to just try! Might take a number of shots...but take them! You never know what you might capture. Photography isn't just about trying to capture a great shot but it's also about experimenting and enjoying the beauty of the process. And I absolutely had a great time trying to get this shot. As a newbie photographer, this shot does bring me a lot of joy and beautiful memories of a great trip.
