Location
I took this photo at the Como Zoo located in St. Paul, Minnesota. I went to the Como Zoo because they have multiple gardens filled with endless beauty. This photo captured on of the exhibit's plants. I am pleased I walked through the gardens for it was a learning experience as well as a shooting haven.Time
This is by far one of my favorite black and white images. I read about the gardens days before traveling there. I was thrilled to walk through the doors of the garden entrance. I finally walked into the dome around 2pm. That's when the shooting began!Lighting
I did not use any excessive light. I let the light from the room do all the work for me. I thought this approach would be best simply because it would capture the plant it it's natural light and natural environment.Equipment
I used my favorite camera, the Nikon COOLPIX P510. I did not use a flash inside the gardens. I did not need a tri-pod either. The paths were narrow in hte garden domes, therefore a tri-pod wasn't an option for this particular shooting event.Inspiration
I love photos of flowers, plants, animals, trees, and more. I love any photograph that represents nature in it's unique habitat. I have always wanted to capture a shot that showed the strength, the life, and the detail of a plant. I think this photo captured all of that and more. I have been taking photos for quite some time, and finally, I get this one... The one I've been hoping to get and the one I've been dreaming of shooting.Editing

I always carry my cameras, my tripod, SD cards, my charger, and a bottle of water. The camera I use for nature and landscapes is the Nikon COOLPIX P510 and my other camera is a CANON point and shoot camera. They both serve a different purpose and they both deliver what's needed. They are light in weight and easy to use.Feedback
My advice would be to always have a camera handy. Some days a bad picture is truly better than no picture at all. I learned that when bad weather approaches, so does great opportunity. The day I shot this, it was humid and hard to capture! The lens was fogging up, I was hot, the camera was getting warm and cold. It was awful. However, if you want to go out and shoot flora and nature shots, weather can be key to great pictures. After the storm can bring a new day to photographers! I was always afraid of bad weather and thought my day of shooting photographs was over. When really, it's the opposite. Bring on the rain, folks! Step outside and find those hidden wonders!
