This photo was taken down on Worthing Beach at low tide...though it was also a very cold september day so my poor ended up with chilly toes!!Time
It was taken about 5pm, myself and my friend, a contemporary dancer, had planned to go down to the seafront and take a few head shots for her applications and some different shots for both of our portfolios.Lighting
We choose late afternoon/early evening in the hope of achieving that lovely dusk lighting, unfortunately with the day being so wet it wasn't quite as golden as we'd hoped but still managed to achieve a nice colour hue!Equipment
Just my trusty Canon 600D, handheld and a Canon 50mm f1.8 Lens.Inspiration
Freya is my best friend and we've collaborated a few times in the past and had the idea to make use of the local seaside for a few months before we finally managed to find a time when we were both free! I've always been impressed by how high Freya can jump and wanted to capture her skill. We chose to include the scarf as a blast of colour against the blue sky.Editing
I mainly used post processing to enhance the lighting, bringing down the highlight of the sky and brightening the shadows a little to bring out a bit more detail. I've also added a slight blur to her outline and upped the saturation a little to give the image a slightly dreamy feel.In my camera bag
I tend to keep it quite simple generally: 600D, 50mm lens, kit lens, spare batteries but for this shoot I also brought along a tripod in case and some props like the scarf and my reflector in case I needed a lighting adjustment for the headshots.Feedback
I made great use of burst mode with this shot and I actually managed to capture the 'lift off', 'in air' and landing of the jump which I am planning to try editing together into one frame. Also kept to a quick shutter speed to ensure that Freya didn't suffer from motion blur!
