I love taking pictures of the moon. With lenses and cameras these days, I think we get nice shots sometimes in spite of ourselves. Although the full moon always grabs my attention, I have yet to figure out how to get a picture of it that doesn't look kind of flat. But if it is less than full, many of the craters show up.
This was a hand-held shot. I like to use the auto exposure and auto focus, but I step the moon shots down 4 or 5 f stops. Then I crop the picture to put just the moon in it rather than a lot of black sky. As kind as my lens and auto focus are to me, I keep thinking if I squint hard enough I will be able to see the U.S. flag in the Sea of Tranquility.
