Behind The Lens

Location

The picture was taken in September 2015 at a dock jumping competition at an apple orchard in MN.

Time

It was taken in the early afternoon.

Lighting

It was sunny; however, the pool was under the overhang of the trees so there was shade provided to help diminish the glare of the sun.

Equipment

The only equipment used was a Nikon D3200 camera and a 70-300mm lens.

Inspiration

We compete with this organization and love to have photos of our dogs so I try to reciprocate and take pictures for the other competitors. It is fun to capture the dogs in action and see the intensity in their eyes all while they are having fun.

Editing

There was some editing done with the picture. It was cropped to show more of the picture of the dog swimming (less pool) and adjusted the color to bring out the blue of the water and the measuring banner.

In my camera bag

I have now upgraded to a Nikon D750; with a 70-200mm f2.8 lens, 105mm macro, 85mm and 50mm lenses. I have several filters but I do not use them often.

Feedback

I just go out and have fun taking pictures. Taking pictures of the dogs in action can be frustrating (that ever elusive focusing) but when you get it the shots can be amazing. Practice makes perfect and don't be afraid to try news things. Another photographer once told me to go out and take pictures of all sorts of things and don't just focus on one subject. That is what I try to do. But most importantly have fun doing it.
