"Anhinga" is a Seminole Indian woed meaning "Snake Bird". Anhinga populate all of South Florida and are most populous in the Florida Everglades. Cousin of the Cormorant, these birds are often seen on tree branches drying their outspread wings in the sun, or swimming in water, with only their heads visible, fishing.
