Hi and welcome to ViewBug. This is a great place to share your photos and receive comments and feedback from your fellow photographers. The detail on this dragonfly (or is it a damselfy?) is amazing and skilfully captured. Well done.

Location
This photo was taken just outside my house.Time
It was morning.Lighting
Natural light is my friend, though I do try to use studio light, but for the situation I was in with this little fella, I had to not move him too much as he seemed to be a little cold and frozen, which allowed me to get so close to him, at least putting him on a wall allowed him to calm down and allow me to capture this beautiful picture with the help of the morning glow.Equipment
I used a Canon 600d, with no flash, the lens would have been my nifty 50 mm.Inspiration
This was, in fact, part of a school photography assessment, where the subject was patterns, and I thought that this would be a great photo to represent patterns.Editing
only changing the photo to black and white, and that's about it.In my camera bag
I pack my 50 mm, my 18-55mm standard kit lens, the body of the camera, plus a flash if I need it.Feedback
Try and be creative, when you've got something special in your clutches, make use of it.
