Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken at a beautiful sunflower farm in NJ. My sisters, cousin and I have been going for years. The first year we went there was almost nobody else there, in the last few years they’ve gotten very popular and are always crowded!Time
This was taken midday in full sun! Usually a less than ideal lighting situation, but it worked for this shot!Lighting
All natural light in the midday sun!Equipment
This was shot on my Nikon D3100 (I’ve since upgraded but that was my entry level camera that I learned photography on!). The lens was an f 2.8 28-75.Inspiration
Sunflowers are my favorite flowers. I love how tall and beautiful they are, and I loved how this one stood out to me against the sea of other flowers. I think the intricacy of their centers are so cool and I wanted to capture that.Editing
This was pretty early in my photography journey when I wasn’t as familiar with post-processing as I am now, so I only did some basic corrections like exposure and contrast in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I generally try to pack light because I know if I take a lot I’ll be tempted not to take my camera at all! I always have my Nikon usually with its f2.8 28-75 lens on (I find it to be the most versatile). I also love macro photography, so if I’m going to be outdoors I’ll also bring my macro lens or if I want to be really minimalist a small clip-on macro lens for my iPhone.Feedback
Be creative! In a place like this, there are hundreds of people all taking pictures of the same flowers. Try different angles, different compositions. Be careful not to overexposed in the bright sunlight.
