Behind The Lens
Location
I started to use a reflex camera to take picture of horses which was difficult with my former compact. During a walk in countryside in Belgium with some friends. At the end of the walk, the horse were quite and I stepped out to start shooting.Time
At 1pm, the light was high enough to shoot with low ISOLighting
The light was perfect. with some cloud the sun was not too much present reducing the shadows usually present at that time.Equipment
freehand picture with my Canon EOS 600D (4/3), f/8, 1/250, 28 mm 100 ISO with standard lens 18-55.Inspiration
I like horses. This beautiful white horse with the blue sky was a good color match. I took a moment to see the right head position with a purposeful character visible in his attitude. I crouched a bit up to see the sky in background.Editing
I did a post processing in Lightroom with lens correction, more saturation (always low with Canon RAWs) and a white vignetting enhance the horse colorIn my camera bag
I'm wearing now a EOS 6D full frame with a 50 mm f/1.4 and a compact reflex Lumix LX100 4/3 24-75.I own also a Canon IS 70-300 USM for outdoor action and a wedding lens Canon 24-105 F/4 L IS USM. For portrait my preference i s the Canon f/1.8 IS USM with a splendid bokeh.Feedback
My advice's: look at the shadows, stand-up and crouch to discover different angles, observe the eyes and the moments of the animal to translate feelings into your picture. And on top of this, enjoy the moment !
