Like the driftwood here as the subject, looks a little like an Eagles head. Would like the horizon line straight which is prefered.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on Yorktown Beach in Yorktown VA. I am a self taught photographer and decided on a beach session to get in some practice.

Time

It was July 25th, I remember because it was the day after my moms birthday. It was about mid afternoon with an overcast sky. Not exactly beach weather but I love the cool days of summer and the different colors in the sky. So i decide to take a stroll and found this gem about a mile down the beach.

Lighting

Lighting? Nothin special at all just the overcast sky and the flash from my canon camera.

Equipment

This was shot with my Canon Rebel T5i and my 18-55mm lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

Honestly the photo itself was something i just happen to stumble upon. I had actually went to get pictures of the bridge and the coast line it was a perfect day. I packed my finacee and some drinks and snacks into two the car and headed down the beach. Once there we parked by the playground and started our mile, mile and half walk towards the George Washington Bridge. As we approached the bridge out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw a Bald Eagle sitting on the beach. I turned slowly and walked towards it camera ready .... I snapped a few quick to be sure to catch him before he flew away. I realized that I was pretty close and it didnt take flight so i lowered my camera and was shocked to see a .... Drift wood :-/ .... After a good laugh I prepared for a final shot and it had to be a good one. One that would make you do a double take! ;-)

Editing

Honestly I didnt do much post processing at all. I did a minor color adjustment and thats it really.

In my camera bag

Well being that I am self taught and still learning the first thing I make sure I have in bag is my equipment guide(s), mostly for troubleshooting issues. Next is my body, camera body that is .... Lol .... Its a Canon EOS Rebel T5i , definitely one of the better cameras I have ever worked with. Then of course is my 18-55mm lens and my new baby the Canon zoom 75-300mm lens. I also carry my grey cards, i have two different sizes and my table top tripod tripod. On super special occasions I lug around my Impact VC-500WLN 3-500Ws Digital Monolight with Transmitter Kit.

Feedback

My biggest tip is to not be hindered by the task at hand .... Dont always rush to a destination because youll never know what beauty you could be missing in the process. And secondly dont over think or second guess .... Just Shoot!
