I took this photo while studying abroad in Italy during the summer of 2015. It is the ceiling of the Sienna Duomo. While there I made it a point to capture the beautiful frescos featured in almost all of the cathedrals and multiple other buildings.Time
I remember this day very clearly. I had to wake up early to catch the bus my class was taking to Sienna from Florence where I was staying. It wasn't too long of a drive but enough that I was able to grab a little bit more sleep. The walk to the cathedral was quite a haul. We were constantly going up and down hills of various sizes, but in the end it was worth it. This photo was taken around noon in July of 2015.Lighting
The lighting in this photo is all natural. I did brighten it up a bit in photoshop but other than that I did not edit the lighting to look a certain way.Equipment
This photo was shoot with a Nikon D3200 camera. I did not use a tripod, flash or any other camera equipment.Inspiration
While in school I took many art history courses and I was always fascinated with fresco paintings; the process, the time spent on them. I did not realize how truly beautiful frescos are until I saw them first hand while studying abroad in Italy. I saw my first one my very first day there and that moment I decided to make it a point to take photographs of as many fresco paintings as I could, making sure to keep them centered and capture the beauty of these paintings while also creating a design.Editing
The only post-processing I did for this photograph was bright it, adjust the contrast, and straighten the image a bit. Other than that I did not edit it to look a certain way or change the photograph. In my camera bag
I just recently purchased a Nikon D7100 and after testing it out, it never leaves my side. I also make sure to have at least a small tripod with me along with one or two other lenses (just in case). I usually pack a flash as well and cleaning supplies for my camera in case it gets dirty.Feedback
It's often hard to capture an image well when the lighting is pretty dim. I'm a relatively stable person but if you're someone who shakes even a little, I highly recommend using a tripod or monopod. Also make sure you keep the image symmetrical in your view finder, straighten the image can cause it to lose it affect (the image may blur, you may not be able to make it straight enough).
