Location
I shot this image while I was vacationing with my family in Galveston, Texas back in the summer of 2013.Time
I arrived to the beach in the afternoon. I took this image on a very windy day on July 28th, 2013 at 3:57 pm. The first thing I did was get out of the truck with my camera in hand and I walked towards the parking lot where I saw a seagull perched at every wood post. There must have been about a dozen seagulls coming and going and as you can see from the image I captured that beautiful landing. It was my lucky day for sure.Lighting
The lighting was perfect as it was a cloudy day in the afternoon. No harsh sun to ruin images. I had my lens hood and polarizing filter attached.Equipment
I shot my image using my Canon EOS 60D, EF 40mm f/2.8 STM (pancake lens), no tripod, no flash.Inspiration
I have a fascination with birds. They are so interesting to watch. A lot of my images have birds in them. Seagulls are particularly my favorite because it reminds me of my childhood when I used to live near the beach (Corpus Christi, Texas).Editing
I processed this image using Photoshop. I auto-toned, sharpened, dodged and burned my image and then overlayed a few textures to my image to make the overall image look like fine art.In my camera bag
I have a camera suitcase on wheels (it holds a lot) that consists of my Canon EOS 6D and 5 Canon lenses which are EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM, EF 40mm f/2.8 STM, EF 85mm f1.8, EF 100 f/2.8 USM and EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. I also have a Canon MR-14EX II Macro Ring Lite, Fotodiox 6"x8" Softbox for flash and a Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head.Feedback
My image is a pretty simple image, but I find that less is more. I also find that simple images can be very powerful if you can capture emotion and/or atmosphere. It can make for good story-telling. I like shooting when it's cloudy outside because it makes my images look more dramatic and I like shooting in the late afternoon when the sun is going down. The bright sun makes for blownout images.
