Behind The Lens

Location

This is a curcuma flower growing in my backyard in late August

Time

Late afternoon, natural lighting

Lighting

Natural lighting, afternoon sunlight

Equipment

Canon Powershot SX40HS, handheld, on manual setting: shutter speed 1/500 sec., aperture f/6.3, ISO 100

Inspiration

I looked out the back window and saw a butterfly on one the flowers of the curcuma plant.. Thought it would make a good photo, so I grabbed my camera and rushed out to catch a photo of it. When I got closer, I saw that it actually was a praying mantis that was blending in with the plant and had caught a butterfly.

Editing

Cropped, only basic editing, adjusted contrast and saturation

In my camera bag

Canon Powershot SX40HS camera, spare battery, cleaning equipment

Feedback

I enjoy outdoor nature photography. I've learned to always look very carefully when outside taking photos. Often something may be there but it may take a sharp eye to spot it.
