Location
I took this photo in a small garden outside along the back porch of my childhood house. My family created the garden for my mother and it is right outside her office window. The garden hosts 4 flowering plants of various colors surrounding a rustic old milk jug that my father turned into a fountain.Time
This photo was taken early in the morning, just after the water sprinklers had run. You can still see the water droplets on the leaves in the form of a beautiful bokeh.Lighting
At the time, the lighting was perfect. It was still in the morning's golden hour.Equipment
My first camera was a Nikon D300. I use this camera with a 18-200mm lens and a wide aperature. Nothing more, nothing less.Inspiration
The photo was very ad hoc. I woke up and was looking for things to photograph, as I do when I am bored and need something to do. The grass was wet so I laid out a towel that I could lay on and photograph my dog rolling around and playing fetch. The light reflecting from water droplets caught my eye and I then decided to photograph the flowering plant.Editing
This was when I was first getting started with photography. Back then, if I did any post-processing (which was pretty rare), I used GIMP 2.8. On this photo, I decided to adjust the contrast. In my camera bag
When I first got started, I had a small backpack that had just enough room for my D300, its 18-200mm lens, and a small pocket big enough to fit a flash in. Since then I have upgraded over the years to include a bunch of different gear that rotates through my backpack. Today I have the National Geographic Earth Explorer Medium Photography Backpack, which is a real testament for my love of their photos. Inside the main rectangular pocket, I keep my camera for the shoot. Sometimes this is my D300 and a 18-300mm (I dropped and broke my 18-200mm), but often enough it is my Canon 5DS R with Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens. Additionally, I'll keep an extra piece of gear in the main pocket, such as a sb-800 flash or a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens. In the upper main pocket of the bag, I keep my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Lens. The rest of the pockets are filled with miscellaneous things that I could not go without. One pocket is packed full of rechargeable batteries, another contains an extra camera battery and it's respective charger.Feedback
If your working with a digital camera, don't be affair to take lots of pictures. You never know, one of them might be that perfect shot. Be flexible. Just because you are focusing on one subject or field of photography doesn't mean you can't dive into another area. Never be afraid to experiment.
