Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Disney World during a March break vacation with my family in Florida. I was finally out of school and was able to for once go on a hide away with the ones I love.

Time

I didn't really thought much about it when I was taking this image. This image was taken in a beautiful sunny day, and the weather was just around the right temperature. This image portrays every aspect I dream Disney World would be. It felt magical almost like thw fairy tales from Walt's famous storyline came to life. The photo was taken in the afternoon around 1:35pm.

Lighting

I wanted to portray this image in a bright but mysterious way. In my case, natural lightening came to play a major role in shaping the image's perception and adding a mysterious feeling within its surrounding, creating a contrast between the sky and the buildings below.

Equipment

I shot this image on my mobile phone (Mi Note) while using my arms as a tripod. No other equipments were involved.

Inspiration

I had really wanted to do something that will reminds me 5, 10, 15 years later when I reflect back upon my trip to Disney. I wanted something memorable to represent that I was here at this park during this day. In my opinion, photography was the best way to capture a moment and make it last forever. And that was exactly what I ended up doing. It was a really beautiful day out and we were taking a walk around the park as a family. There was a lot of selfie moments but I wanted to take a image that will reminds me the beauty of the park as well. When you're in the moment enjoying the view, with a little bit of help from mother nature (to provide the good lightening) and picking a right angle, I was ready to go. That was what had inspired me to this photo.

Editing

Generally speaking, I enjoy post editing, it is the process that really brings a image to life. For this particular photo, I fixed the white balance to create a contrast between the blue sky and colorful buildings. I have also sharpens the image in order to outlines the details and the contrast and high light levels of the image was also altered to make the tone of the image appears darker than the unedited version

In my camera bag

Consider the fact that I'm still a student, most if the time I would just have my phone with me. But on other occasions I would also bring my Canon Rebel t5 with 18-55mm lense.

Feedback

I'm a full time student so there really isn't much time for me to go out and captures all the beauty within my surrounding. Therefore, all the pictures I take are unpredictable. For this particular image, I was able to capture what it appears to be in a town environment. In this case, you as the photographer need to make sure you know what kind of way you want to portray your image to the audience, and once that's settled, a good surrounding and good lightening becomes extremely important. It would be best if the photo is taken in a landscape form and the sky and the ground should be all included in in order to display the difference and emphasis the contrast between the two points. Color balancing also becomes important in this case so do not be afriad to take a image that accompany variety of colors. Some sort of patterns that appears in the surrounding also helps to shape the uniqueness of the image and helps to balance the color and the tone of the photo as well. In the end just be sure to have lots of fun when taking a picture that's similar to this one. Photography should be an enjoyable process and I'm sure that is the reason why you are willing to take your time, capture a picture and portrays something out of it. So do not get frustrated if the lightening is not that great at the time. Make sure you bring the proper equipment and do not afriad to use the gift of mother nature. Good luck!
