Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on a futon in my basement.

Time

The time of day is somewhat irrelevant as it is a studio shot but, I made the photo at 1:53:17PM on 23 Aug 2015

Lighting

I lit this with an AB Einstein using an 11inch reflector and a 15degree grid.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D810 with a 50mm lens set at F10 and 1/250 strobe settings unknown.

Inspiration

My thoughts when I was setting up the shot was that I was thinking of some of the paintings from the past, showing the couple separate from the environment, allowing the viewer to feel the emotion shared by the subjects.

Editing

I just ran this through PS to erase any bumps or lines and then sent it over to MacPhun Tonality Pro for black and white conversion.

In my camera bag

I normally carry a D810 and assortment of lenses and at least one 400ws or stronger strobe. I also almost always have some sort of film camera with me, incase the urge hits. I have also been known to do an entire shot with a point and shoot camera. It really is not about the gear, sure gear can help in some situations but not all.

Feedback

if your goal is to create something similar, get to know your lights. I used to think I was controlling the light until it finally hit me that my method of photography fir the most part is to control the dark and then add light to the areas I was the viewer to see.
