West coast sunsets are hard to beat on a bad day, this one was an especially moody one with surfers just beginning to shut it down late in a winters day.Lighting

I must have taken one hundred photos of the sky alone this evening. It was really beautiful.I walked down to the shoreline to gain a new perspective. By chance a surfer was leaving the surf crossing between the setting sun and myself. I jumped at the unfolding shot before me. Rest is history.Editing

A small amount of patience, a good jacket, warm clothes and perhaps a gin with some cheese and crackers to enjoy the surfers through the sunset. The surfers frequent this popular spot and I daresay these spectacular skylines follow suit in winter times south-western Australia. Of course putting yourself in position to catch the surfer between you and the sun, a few minutes watching them exit and enter the surf.
