Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Timbavati in South Africa, the only place in the world with wild white lions.

Time

It was taken late morning. We arose very early to start our safari at first light, but it took quite a bit of scouting to locate the pride

Lighting

I would have preferred early morning light, but with wildlife, you often have to take what you get

Equipment

Nikon D7100 and Sigma 150-600

Inspiration

It was so special to see these wild leucistic lions, but what really made this shot for me is that it had both the white and normal colored lions and the wonderful interaction of the mother with her cub.

Editing

This was shot in RAW and processed in Lightroom

In my camera bag

I always have two camera bodies and a shorter and longer telephoto lens

Feedback

Go out as early and stay out as late as you can. Always look around and don't just look through the camera. Take time to immerse yourself in the moment and look for those special interactions.
