Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph of Carew Castle and estuary in Pembrokeshire, Wales was taken from the tidal mill

Time

This photograph was taken mid afternoon, it was a clear day with a little bit of cloud

Lighting

This photograph was taken in natural daylight using no additional lighting source. The light was behind the castle giving a slight reflection in the water and accentuating the Cumulus clouds above.

Equipment

I shot this photograph with my Canon EOS 60D, no flash was used and I used my 18-135 lens, as this photograph was taken through a window I used the sill to steady the camera.

Inspiration

On my day off from work I enjoy visiting and photographing historic sites Including National Trust properties and castles. During a visit to Carew Castle you could see the Tidal Mill located down the lane and I went to explore. When looking out through one of the open windows there was a great view of the castle and the birds that were on the water in front of it.

Editing

The only processing that was done to this photograph was a little bit of sharpening and a small touch of brightness, these are the options available on the MacBook photo software.

In my camera bag

I always take my Canon EOS 60D, my Main canon 18-135mm Lens and depending upon the location I am travelling I generally carry a 10-18mm and my tamron 70-300mm Lenses. I also carry a clean cloth to clean the lens if they get wet or dirty, my canon 600EX-RT speedlite flashgun, spare batteries and SIM cards

Feedback

Take your time when taking photos, take a few of the same subject but at different angles/positions to ensure you get one you really like as this will save you time going back to the place to re shoot them if you were not happy with the original ones taken
