Beautiful! Very natural. This is one of the best aurora shots I've ever seen.

Location
This photo was taken at Krakenes in Nordreisa, Norway. The farmer area can be found just south of the town center, Storslett.Time
This was taken during the night hours of January 21st, 2015. I remember the night as being one of the cold ones. The area I shot this is also known to be colder than the surrounding areas.Lighting
My take at the northern lights here started out as an experiment for me, I wanted to emphasize the northern lights in the cold, yet dreamy way I experience them.Equipment
As most of my night shots I used my Zeiss Distagon 15mm f2.8, as well as my Nikon D810. The Zeiss is my go-to lens due to its hard stop infinity which is a great help at those freezing cold and dark nights.Inspiration
I really didn't plan anything special here. It is a road leading into the northern lights. It is simple, but it works.Editing
I have tried to emphasize the northern lights here without compromising its true form. I actually find the details in the northern lights better compared to my normal approach when editing night skies. In my camera bag
After I got myself a decent camera bag I do carry my D810, Nikon 14-24mm, Nikon 24-70mm and 80-400mm. This is a combination that works well for me. In addition, I carry a few filters for the ultrawide as well as the normal zoom.Feedback
My best advice for capturing the aurora borealis is to be patient. The intensity of the northern lights will come and go throughout the night. To capture those portfolio photos you'll need lots of luck with the northern lights and obviously the weather. Dress up for a long night out in the dark.
