The photo was taken from the Sunrise area the in MOunt Rainier national parkTime
It was taken around 2 am after waiting for 2 hours for the Milky Way to rotate in the sky to the point where it was directly above Mount RainierLighting
It was all natural light, the lighter areas just above the mountain are from light pollution from near by Puyallup WashingtonEquipment
The photo was taken with a Nikon D800 with a 14-24 mm lens on a tripod. It was a 30 sec exposure f 2.8 at an iso of 2500Inspiration
I love pictures of the Milky Way and Mount Rainier is so impressive and accessible so it was a naturalEditing
The post processing revolved around accentuating the milky way and opening up the shadows to show more of the mountainIn my camera bag
I usually have a nikon D800, a 14-24, 24-70 and a 28-300 mm lenses, assorted neutral denstiy filters and cable release cord. In addititon to addtional SD & CF card, batteries ,flashlight and occationally a strobe flash.Feedback
Capturing the Milky Way is all about getting somewhere dark, the darker the better. There are a number of apps/websites to help find dark areas and an app called Sky Guide that will tell you when and where the Milky Way will be. It also shows what it will look like just about anywhere.
