I took this image at Midwest Technical Institute in Springfield, Illinois. They hold an annual welding competition for the high schools in this area.ITime

I tried several different type of lighting and using flash as a fill. I was not satisfied so I started using only the light from the welding. I found the best ambient light was when the welding stick was arcing behind an object like this pipe.Equipment

While I was watching the competition I like the arcing and the light given off by the weld. Had to try.Editing

Take your time and experiment doing different angle. One I enjoyed is the reflection of the arc off the face of the welding mask. Have fun and shoot.
