Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee. We went in February because it is the best time to see the eagles that nest there. The weather was so dark and overcast but it made for some great black and white photos.

Time

This was taken on a very overcast and cold morning. Not much light was available.

Lighting

This was taken on a overcast morning with natural light.

Equipment

This was taken with a Sony a350 and a 55-200 lens. Not other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I had never seen cypress trees growing before and the fact that they were growing out of the water like that was so interesting to me. The fog and mist created such a ethereal atmosphere it caught my eye.

Editing

The only post processing that was done on this was a quick crop and the lighting was brought up a bit. I turned it to black and white, however there was not much difference from the original picture.

In my camera bag

I always have my Sony a350, my 55-200 lens, my 18-70 lens and a Minolta 75-300 "Big Beer Can" lens. I like to have the lens assortment for whatever comes up.

Feedback

Remember that there is beauty in stark landscapes. It may not seem interesting at first but sometimes less is better. Also contrast in nature is always something to look for
