Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken in my front yard in Fuquay Varina, NC. My mimosa tree is a haven for butterflies and hummingbirds.

Time

The photo was taken late afternoon, around 5pm, in early August 2015.

Lighting

This was taken using natural light.

Equipment

My go-to camera is my Canon Powershot SX50. No tripod was used - I was following this guy around the tree until he lit on a flower.

Inspiration

I have a great love of nature, and God's creatures. I stalk the hummingbirds, butterflies, deer, rabbits and other wildlife daily.

Editing

No post-processing was necessary- the shot was amazingly good as it was. Normally I tweak color or exposure, but not this time.

In my camera bag

I carry my Canon Powershot SX50, my Sony digital camcorder, replacement batteries, battery charger, extra sd cards, lens cleaner & my business card. I also carry my tripod, but it doesn't fit in the case.

Feedback

Be patient. I spend hours checking the tree for good shots. When I see one I like, I take several, so I'm pretty much assured I'll have one that meets my standards. Work with different camera settings - be creative. Keep in mind that an average photo can many times be made great through proper and creative editing. Most importantly, have fun.
