The London Eye is a giant ferris wheel located on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. Erected for the Millennium celebrations in 1999, it is also known as the Millennium Wheel and originally went by the official name of The British Airways London Eye. It was then taken over by Merlin Entertainments and most recently, in January 2011, it has become the EDF Energy London Eye.

On completion, it was the worlds tallest ferris wheel but has since been overtaken by three other wheels. Supported by an A-frame on one side only, the Eye is described by its operators as "the world's tallest cantilevered observation wheel".
