CSX Q582-21 at Cowan Tunnel

Lights through the 166 year old tunnel as CSX Q582-21 (Atlanta, Ga- Nashville, Tn) come through the historic Cumberland Mountain Tunnel about two miles south of Cowan, Tn. The small stone arc bridge crossing over the main track is the former Tracy City Branch which seen service in 1856 when coal, coke, and lime stone traffic was booming in the early days til 1985 when CSX decided to abandon operation on the branch, Today the old Tracy City Branch is a walking trail or as the local calls it the Goatline. The City of Cowan, along with Tracy City have had talk with CSX into purchasing this line to make it as a Nature walk that link the two Tennessee towns together.
