Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during the height of a storm in Muscat. The sky literally turned from blue to grey within seconds. We were driving on the highway between Muscat and Dubai and the road was flooded by King Tides when I spotted the old boat out of the corner of my eye. The scen was so dramatic I just had to have a shot of it.

Time

It was around 2.30 pm. We planned to be in Dubai by around 6 pm to attend an awards ceremony. There is a very long story attached to that.

Lighting

The lighting was sensational. It suddenly went from a robust bright light to a heavy brooding Grey that was almost suffocating. But the mood was electric as the storm blew in and the colours all became muted but energised at the same time. It wasn't easy to hold the camera steady as the wind was so strong was very happy with the results.

Equipment

I used a Canon Powershot Camera. No flash or filters. No tripod although I could have done with one to hold it steady.

Inspiration

The Mood and Tone of the boat and the surrounding Landscape. It drew me in and made me want to capture what was happening at the time. The Authenticity of such an old boat battering the storm all alone yet still remaining in one piece was inspiring. I found its strength to be energizing.

Editing

No I didn't really need to. The photo was sufficient. It told the story of a fisherman's life.

In my camera bag

I always carry a camera in my bag. Just in Case !!
