Thanks, was rapt to capture it, especially with such a shallow DOF. Iso 1600, f4.5, 1/3200 sec, 70mm

Great capture! Interesting you call it a Waxeye, we call them Silvereyes down here in Tas. :)

Location
This phot was taken in my backyard in Whakatane, New Zealand. The persimmon tree was in full fruit and these delightful little birds were competing for their share of the ripe fruit.Time
Late afternoon sun provided the light.Lighting
The main concern was to position myself in a spot where the birds would be be nicely illuminated and not have heavy shadows over them from branches and twigs.Equipment
The shot was handheld with a Canon 6D, with a 100mm prime lens at 3000th/second to try and freeze action.Inspiration
It was simply one more attempt, after many failures, to try and capture the agile aerobatics of these birds as they disputed the rights to partake of the ripe fruit. For once I neither missed the bird completely nor just capture a wingtip or a part of a tail.Editing
Very little, just some minor cropping, lightening, contrast and sharpening. In my camera bag
Canon 6d and a number of lenses including canon 100mm prime, 50mm prime, 70 to 200mm, and a Sigma 500mm prime.Feedback
Find the action, watch for behaviour patterns, position yourself to best use the light, and then do not give up. There were over 1000 failures before capturing this image.
